Programs Won’t Open Because of Viruses

Sometimes programs won’t open on your computer because viruses are impeding the system. Avoiding and fixing this problem is usually quite simple. If you already have antivirus software, then make sure that you are using the latest version. You should also make sure that you use the antivirus software at least once a day, especially if you access the internet a lot.

It’s a good idea to use at least two antivirus programs. It’s nearly impossible for one program to catch every potential Trojan and virus. Using two antivirus programs increases the chances that your system will identify all potential threats.

Programs Won’t Open Because of a System Bug

A slightly misplaced file can cause all kinds of problems for your computer. Most Windows operating systems automatically update to help ensure that users have the most up-to-date security options. The problem with automatic updates, however, is that it increases the likeliness of encountering a system bug, which can prevent programs from opening. If you find that a recent Windows update is preventing your computer from opening programs, then you can use system restore to roll back the clock on your OS to a point in the past when the problem did not yet exist.

Programs Won’t Open Because the Hard Drive is Full

Your computer needs plenty of free RAM to open programs and perform other functions. If your hard drive is full, then large programs won’t open. The solution to this problem depends on whether you want to add RAM or eliminate some of the files and programs that are currently on your PC.

If you have a lot of music, videos, and pictures saved on your hard drive, then you might want to consider burning some of these files to a DVD. DVDs can store lots of information in a small amount of space, so you can catalog the files easily. Of course, if you don’t think that you’ll need the files in the future, then you can just delete them. Be sure to empty your recycling bin, though. The files aren’t permanently removed until you instruct the recycling bin to dump them.

If your programs won’t open because you have a lot of unused software on your computer, then you can free up space by uninstalling those that you don’t plan to use again. Most of us have old software sitting on our hard drives that aren’t doing anything but taking up space. Don’t just drag the software’s icon into the recycling bin, though. Getting rid of programs usually requires uninstalling them.

Adding memory to your computer can also help your PC operate more efficiently. The easiest solution is to use an external hard drive to save files and software that you don’t use often. This frees up a considerable amount of memory that will help the computer process programs that won’t open.
